Matt is the leader of the trial and litigation team at Percy Law and has a unique ability to react quickly and articulate successful arguments on the spot when the unexpected happens in the courtroom. Matt also has a talent for examining witnesses, whether in a deposition or on the stand at trial. Matt and Jamie have been successful in achieving positive jury trial verdicts for multiple clients. Matt is an experienced litigator and has practiced before state and federal district courts and has successfully argued before state and federal appellate courts.
Matt is the City attorney for Gonzales, Louisiana, the Ascension Parish Communications District, and he also represents the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. Matt enjoys helping those local governmental bodies deliver exceptional services to the community.
Matt is passionate about representing his personal injury clients. He takes pride in fighting for his clients in situations where they may not be able to help themselves. Matt’s clients are his top concern, and he often communicates with them with case updates and strategies to help them achieve their legal goals. He takes pride in helping to get his clients’ lives back on track. That is the biggest reward for him.
Matt was selected by the Baton Rouge Business Report for its “Forty under 40” award in 2019. In his free time, Matt enjoys playing golf and spending time with his wonderful wife, son, and daughter.
Ryland Percy is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He received a B.S. in accounting from Louisiana State University in 1971 and his M.S. in Administration from the University of Guam in 1974. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the LSU Law Center in 1976. Ryland retired as a Rear Admiral in the United States Navy in 2007 after 36 years of active and reserve service. Ryland’s principal practice areas include general and commercial litigation, real estate, business transactions, corporations, class action administration, personal injury, and governmental law.
Ryland is a member of the 23rd Judicial District and Louisiana State Bar Associations. He holds an AV-Preeminent Rating from the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory for meeting the highest level of professional excellence.
Meet Jamie Schutte, Partner at Percy Law.
Jamie is an integral part of the trial and litigation team at Percy Law. Jamie truly enjoys representing her clients alongside Matt in the courtroom. Together they have been successful in achieving positive jury trial verdicts for multiple clients. Jamie has exceptional legal research and writing skills and is a skilled strategist when it comes to litigation. Together, Jamie and Matt have achieved success on behalf of and against local and nationally recognized companies.
In addition to litigation, Jamie helps her business and construction clients with the management of regular business operations, such as contract review, liens, and employment issues, and more complex situations, such as litigation and the buying and selling of assets.
Jamie is also passionate about representing municipal bodies and other public entities. The local level of government is where services get delivered to our community, and Jamie is honored to be integral in that process.
Jamie joined Percy Law in 2019 after working at a personal injury firm where she gained valuable experience as a litigator. She earned her J.D. and Master’s in biomedical sciences from the University of Denver. She received her bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Louisiana State University. During law school, she worked for a biotechnology company assisting with its intellectual property portfolio and the technology transfer process.
Jamie is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Ascension Chamber of Commerce, a member of the East Ascension Rotary Club, and member of the Gonzales Area Foundation committee.
